Windows 2012 SMB Performance
During Scott’s session covering the new features of Windows Server 2012 at the User Group Meeting, specifically Hyper-V 3.0 and using a file share to host the .VHD files, a member of the audience asked a great question regarding what performance impact or improvements have been made to Server Message Block (SMB) in order to support this new feature in Hyper-V.
The performance test team in the Windows product group has published a whitepaper here – http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/hh457617.aspx providing preliminary performance data showing the many improvements the product group have made to SMB in order to adapt to changes in today’s hardware and the features of Windows 2012. It should be noted that these results will change (i.e. improve) by the time the product RTM’s.
Slide decks from April’s Meeting
Below are links to the slide decks from our April meeting / MMS recap.
Rethinking the PowerShell Study Group
So its become clear that the book selected…while incredibly rich and valuable with information…may be deeper than we should be attempting to start with.
I had the opportunity to spend some time with the PowerShell folks at MMS and spoke at length about the study group and what we were trying to accomplish.
The output of those discussions was the realization that we might need to change the book we are using.
Learn Windows PowerShell in a Month of Lunches. Met the author, Don Jones. Nice dude. Incredibily bright and knowledgable. I picked up the book on their recommendation and it flows very nicely. Good good starting point for PowerShell.
(emails are being exchanged about this now)
Real World Scenarios at General Mills
One nice perk of being at MMS is getting to see how other companies are using System Center 2012. In this session we learned how General Mills used Configuration Manager and Orchestrator to design an automated process for application packaging that accelerated their Windows 7 deployment.
PowerShell
Just attended Don Jones PowerShell Session. Excellent!
Go to the channel. Do it! Do it now!
I have already ordered to book.
